Who We Are
HISTORY
The year was 1952. The crime? Theft and betrayal. One Basil "Duke" Henning, then-Head of Saybrook College and former Whiffenpoof, stole an arrangement from the Whiffs and presented it to four of his eager first-years. Thus, a group known as The Duke's Men were born.
(Now, we've also heard that the Whiffs stole this same arrangement from us. Pick your own narrative, I guess.)
In 2017, we became the first all-gender tenor/bass a cappella group at Yale. We then adapted our longstanding nickname — "Doox" — to better reflect the new composition of the group. Over the past 70 years, Doox has grown from a young quartet into a rambunctious and incredibly close family of more than 400 singers. We’ve recently won an ICCA Outstanding Arrangement award and have been featured by NPR, the Smithsonian, and our moms’ Facebook pages.
From pop hits to soulful showstoppers, rock ballads to jazz standards, we sing it all.
TRAVEL
Each year, Da Doox embark on three tours during breaks from school. In recent years, international tours have taken us to France, England, Japan, Ecuador, Colombia, Turkey, China, Ireland and more! Domestically, we tour coast-to-coast, visiting hometowns and vacation destinations alike.
As we begin our 73rd season, our planned destinations include California, New England, Turkey, Greece, and Italy.
MUSIC
With an expansive repertoire of over 400 songs across all genres and times, Doox is known for its musical ambition and creativity. Da Doox release a new studio album every other year, and our newest, Lost and Found, features the first collection of songs arranged exclusively by non-male members of Doox. We also released them in an EP, xoop ep, which you can listen to right now!
